Jaephisch and the Dark Rainbow is a fantasy adventure webcomic heavily inspired by Final Fantasy and other RPGs (Role Playing Games) from the Super Nintendo era. I created the comic not only to pay homage to these games from my childhood which still inspire me greatly but also to create the kind of story, world, and characters which derive from this inspiration. Since I am not yet able to create my own video games, I decided to create Dark Rainbow in the way I could best - as a comic.

Originally, I had aspirations to create a comic series revolving around the Wizard of Oz world based on content created by L. Frank Baum. I created new characters to the Oz world which would interact with the classic characters from Baum's books, keeping the spotlight on my original characters and their lives in the world of Oz. I managed to write a good amount of text establishing the plot and timeline of the comic, but as time flew by I abandonded the project for works of more interest. Even though this project was pushed aside, certain aspects of my Oz story are in use or will find use in the world of Dark Rainbow.

However, in the summer of 2008, I was suddenly struck with the notion to create a comic series based on myself and my friends, mirroring our different traits and adapting these traits and personas into a fantasy/RPG setting. Thus, Dark Rainbow was born! The first page went online August 9th, 2008.

During this time, my long time friend and comic-making partner Greg Khmara and I were also planning our long-format comic series "Tabouli BROS." From Dark Rainbow's premiere to now, we have been working steadily and predominantly on Tabouli BROS. as well. It was not until page 37 of Dark Rainbow in which Greg began to also work with me on Dark Rainbow, taking over the plot and dialog writing of the comic. Currently, we spend about 30+ hours a week on Tabouli BROS. and Dark Rainbow collectively.

In short, our mission with Dark Rainbow is to provide an enjoyable adventure comic to you while we progress through Tabouli BROS. Since Tabouli BROS. is a much longer format than Dark Rainbow and is essentially much more detailed and more elaborate, we wanted you to have something to enjoy while waiting for the publication of Tabouli BROS. We hope you enjoy Jaephisch and the Dark Rainbow, and we hope you'll love Tabouli BROS. even more!

Check out this episode of our video series "Hooked On Comics" to learn how I create a page of Jaephisch and the Dark Rainbow!
