Uni Fischer, younger brother to Jason Fischer, died in battle with a coyote. Born summer of 1996 and died October Twentieth, 2008
My mom called me the evening of the twentieth, the day Uni passed. She woke up at 1:30 in the morning or so to what she thought was the sound of the neighbor's dog barking. She went to the front door to let Uni in, as he's been an outdoor/indoor cat his whole life. He was not waiting at the door, like usual, but my mom saw a large coyote out in the street at the corner of our house. She also saw Uni, lying on the asphalt. She raced over to Uni, which scared the coyote off, to discover that he had been extensively mauled. He was still alive when she found him; not knowing what else to do, my mom wrapped him gently in a towel and carried him into the house, like a baby. He never liked being held, but in this case he stayed calm. His will to live did last until later morning today, but he was so terribly injured that she felt it best to put him to rest. Judging by her tale to me, I felt it was the right decision as well.
Uni was unlike any other cat we have ever had in our family; very intelligent, loving, devilishly handsome and could always brighten my day. He was my little brother, and my friend. I will always cherish his life and the love that fills my heart every time I see him, remember him, and of course draw him, for my life eternal. He was a brave young man, and to know he went down with a fighting spirit fills me with courage. Uni is my courage, and now I will never be scared.
Uni is now finding even greater adventure, where ever he is. While he will be missed incredibly by those that knew and loved him, I am happy to know he will be loved eternally in the pages of my comic. I love you, my baby brother Uni.
